Our history

Blacksmith Johann Philipp builds a small sawmill in Obersontheim.
His sons Wilhelm and Friedrich continue the business. His youngest son Gottlob looked for work elsewhere after his business management training.
Acquisition of a sawmill in Sulzdorf. Gottlob is admitted by his brothers into the firm as a partner and runs the Sulzdorf sawmill.
Gottlob Schaffitzel continues the business alone and in his name. In the mid-1930s, the sawmill expands. New sawing machines were bought and modern kilns were installed. Looking for new sales markets, timber warehouses were built in Künzelsau and Weinheim.
After the setback of the Second World War, a carpentry workshop and a joinery and cabinet making shop became a part of the company during the reconstruction phase.
Son Helmut G. Schaffitzel took his state examination in civil engineering and the carpentry workshop became an engineer wood construction division. The firm quickly focused on modern glued laminated timber technology, one of the first to do so in Germany.
After being released from captivity as an American prisoner of war, son Kurt Schaffitzel also joins the management and takes over the sawmill and planing mill. In the mid-1960s, Kurt Schaffitzel takes over the timber and glued laminated timber operations, with Helmut Schaffitzel focusing on and expanding the production of kitchen furniture.
The company is rebranded as Schaffitzel Holzindustrie GmbH + Co.
Construction of a fully-automated assembly line for manufacturing glue-laminated wooden components.
Jürgen Gottlob Schaffitzel joins the family business as the factory manager after his studies in civil engineering at Biberach University of Applied Sciences and working as a civil engineer at the Kirschner Group in Dülmen.
Jürgen Gottlob Schaffitzel is appointed as managing director and is the managing partner of Schaffitzel Holzindustrie since 1995.
The company builds itself another hall. A state-of-the-art manufacturing facility is installed inside for the production of glued-laminated timber. Jörg Schaffitzel is appointed as additional managing director.
