Bridge in Sneek, The Netherlands
New construction of an open truss bridge made of Accoya glued laminated timber with steel deck, length appr. 32.00 m.

Architect
Hans Achterbosch, Leeuwarden

After having planned the project over a period of almost 3 years the Sneek bridge has now become a reality. Sneek is a Frisian borough calling itself the “water town” in The Netherlands. Finally, the gap in the A7 motorway around Sneek has been closed and completed. In a multi-year plan additional very extensive rebuilding measures are in progress. The timber bridge over A7 being of great visual impact has been manufactured and installed by Schaffitzel Holzindustrie. The order was placed by Provins Frysland/Gemeente Sneek, NL.

Glued en bloc: Modified timber was applied for the first time: acetylized pine wood coming from New Zealand and after having been controlled, was laminated as GL-timber. This glueing method has been established by us ! The components were twisted and glued en bloc, a novelty in timber technology.
